I instantly loved Julia and Mike when I met them last year to discuss their wedding plans, so I was looking forward to seeing them again for their engagement session. We decided to meet in Lawrenceville, a neighborhood they've grown to love, as it is where they purchased and renovated their first home together.

It was a beautiful, although unseasonably warm, spring day in Pittsburgh, so we spent some time walking around one of the local parks and catching up on t he last few months since we'd first met (Julia passed her bar exam on the first try. Go Julia!).

Here are some of my faves from their session:

We made our way over to the 40th street bridge to get some photos of them with the city as a backdrop

More good news: One of my images from Aishah and Adnan's wedding at the Pennsylvanian was published in the national issue of The Knot: Best of Weddings 2009. Yay for my first publication in a national magazine!

The rentals for this wedding were provided by All Occasions Party Rentals. If you contact them, ask for Kristin. She's a doll!

Karen and Ben are one of my many couples planning their wedding from out of town, so even though they booked me last year for their wedding, we just met for the first time this past weekend when they were in Pittsburgh doing some wedding-related things. Much to my delight, they are ultra fun and super fabulous.

We met up at Mellon Park and started the session with a little kite-flying. There was a slight breeze that day; just enough to get the kite in the air a few times (but not really enough to keep it afloat for long.) Still, it was fun trying. :)

These two couldn't make a better pair, they quite obviously adore one another. Nina is one of the sweetest people I've met (and gorgeous too!), and Bryan is one of the quiet, funny types. Nina and Bryan shared their vows in a beautiful ceremony set against a breathtaking backdrop. Their day was filled will love and laughter, friends and family from around the world, fabulous details, and was truly a celebration to remember.

Here are some of the details of their day:
(Notice the intricate detailing on Nina's custom-made gown. It was the perfect fusion between Indian and Western fashion, and she looked amazing in it!)

weddingdetails1.jpgThis shot of Bryan in the lobby of the Omni William Penn was taken by Joey, who was my second shooter for the day.

weddingj0246tx2.jpgI told you she's gorgeous. :)

wedding0001.jpgNina and Bryan chose to see one another before the ceremony, so we had extra time to get some portraits of the two of them. This first portrait of them was captured by Joey.

Nina and Bryan; Thanks for having me along to capture your day (and being such gracious hosts!). It's been a pleasure!

Ceremony- Carnegie Museum Hall of Architecture
Reception- Carnegie Museum Music Hall
Entertainment- DJ Jeremy Ganss. Jeremy rocked the house. All night. For real.
Lighting- A.D.S. Lighting and Staging. One of the best investments you can make at your wedding is fab lighting. Andy's the go-to guy for that. Go now.

...and answers. Elizabeth Craig of Craig Photography asked me to answer a few questions as part of her ongoing 5 Question Interview Series with local wedding vendors. I happily obliged and you can pop on over to her blog to read the results here. Thanks Elizabeth!

And because what good is a post without a photo...here's a little gem of me challenging my nephew to a friendly race on Easter. (He's smiling because he doesn't realize he's about to lose.)

Nina's haldi ceremony was the next day following the mehndi. Here are some of the things that caught my eye throughout the afternoon:

I photographed the mehndi of Nina and Bryan at Your Inner Vagabond in Lawrenceville. One of their guests described the evening as "part Arabian Nights, part Cirque du Soleil", which I have to agree was a pretty accurate synopsis. Here are some of the things that caught my eye:

mehndimosaic.jpgThese are all of Nina's friends who helped plan the mehndi. Check out the pregnant belly of the girl in the purple sari. She was just glowing and positively adorable!

mehndi9123.jpgSeveral of Nina's friends performed dances for her. They were fantastic!

mehndi9128.jpg One of the belly dancers...

mehndi9419.jpgSomething about this silhouette of Nina while she was on the dance floor is so striking to me. I love it.

mehndi9495.jpg Stay tuned for more images from the rest of their weekend!

There's a feature in todays Post Gazette about Alexis and David's wedding day that includes one of my images from their wedding. Pick up the paper or check it out online. Congrats Lexi and Dave!

One of my images placed in the most recent WPJA (Wedding Photojournalist Association) contest. I got 16th place in the humor category for this image of Kate after she and her brother took a shot of whiskey at her wedding. I love this photo. :)

kg15.jpg
I normally wouldn't be super excited about 16th place (because it's 16th place), but this was an international competition so there are literally photographers from all over the world submitting their images. So 16th is better than nothing, especially in such a talented pool of photographers.
