My dear friend Rachel Ryan shared this video with me and I thought it too good not to pass along.

Julie and Hannah committed their lives to one another in an emotional, intimate ceremony and reception held at James Gallery in the West End of Pittsburgh. Here are some of my faves from the evening:

Julie wanted an urban feel to their couple portraits, so we took advantage of some the glorious dilapidated backgrounds the West End offers:

Some of my favorites from Jessica and Josh's wedding day.

A few details from their day:

details.jpgThey chose to see one another before the ceremony so they had plenty of time for portraits and were able to spend cocktail hour with their guests. I *love* when I get lots of time to create beautiful portraits for my clients on their wedding day.

jj5938.jpgGotta love the drama of the architecture at the Pennsylvanian.

The wedding party was super fun, and they definitely knew how to work it for the camera.

jj6073.jpg
My fave. Love, love, love this image.

jj6089.jpg
I was thrilled to have the opportunity to shoot from behind the priest during the ceremony. Photographers out there know that this virtually never happens during a Catholic ceremony, so I was delighted to have such a great vantage point while Jessica and Josh exchanged their vows.

jj1729.jpg
A few more portraits after the ceremony. Love this.

jj6210.jpgjj1758.jpg
Ultra fun reception (DJ'd by the inimitable Jeremy Ganss), with lots of dancers and a surprise routine to 'Mr. Roboto' courtesy of one of Josh's groomsmen (that first photo in the series pretty much sums up the crowd's reaction: shock, laughter, and lots of photos.)

Jessica and Josh, thanks so much for having Jaci and me along. It was a pleasure to witness the love between the two of you, your friends and family, and an honor to document it.

I've got to give kudos to Leeann for seeing this stairwell and suggesting we use it for a few shots.

la5489.jpgWe started walking over to this grate hanging on the wall, and next thing I know, Alyssa is climbing right up there, heels, big dress and all.  Gotta love enthusiasm like that (and the images that resulted)!

Can I just begin by saying how much I love, love, love doing these sessions? If you're unfamiliar with the Trash the Dress concept, it's a session after the wedding day where the bride dons her dress again for some fun and creative portraits without needing to worry if the dress gets dirty or takes a little beating during the process. (Now, I've seen this taken to the extreme; I've seen images from sessions like these with the bride cutting up her dress with scissors, rolling around in paint, and similar instances that really do trash the dress.) My approach is more along the lines of creating edgy, beautiful, creative images without having to worry about sitting or laying down in urban places, or occasionally getting wet. I love doing these sessions because they give me a chance to be creative without many constraints, and they give my clients a chance to get glammed up and wear their dress again and get some ultra-fun, fashion-oriented imagery in the process.

Anyway, when Leeann and her best friend Alyssa first contacted me about doing a session I was stoked. They decided they wanted to do an urban theme, so we made plans to begin in the Strip District and see where the evening took us. It had been threatening rain all day (so much so that we almost postponed the session), but in the end it worked in our favor- providing nice diffused light and some really moody skies as a backdrop.

On to a few of my faves from Leeann:

Jessica and Jeff got married in a beautiful and personal outdoor ceremony at Phipps Conservatory in Oakland. The weather couldn't have been better (especially for a July wedding in Pittsburgh). Here are some of my faves from their day:

Jeff wore a pin that stated "I like pie". So much in fact, that in lieu of a cake, the couple served a pie buffet during the reception. And oh my gosh, don't you love the guys' shoes?

Jessica was truly glowing as she waited with friends and family before the ceremony

They had planned on doing a sparkler exit at the end of the evening, and Jessica's mom surprised them by hiring a pedicab to whisk them away to their hotel. It was such a perfect ending to a beautiful day.

Jessica and Jeff; it was more fun than I even suspected. Thanks for having me along!

Ashly and Brian tied the knot at the elegantly sophisticated  Carnegie Museum in Oakland. Their ceremony was held in the Hall of Architecture, with the reception following in the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer. Ashly was a stunning bride in a Monique Lhuillier gown, complete with a custom hairpiece with feathers and a cage veil. I love it when brides have a fabulous sense of style and an eye for detail, and Ashly certainly did. Everything came together to make a gorgeous, fun, and emotional day. Here are a few of my faves from their day:

Some of the details:

Isn't she stunning? And my goodness, that hairpiece made me swoon.

Ashly and Brian, thank you so much for having Jaci and I at your wedding. I had a blast with you two, your familes and friends, and I hope you are enjoying your European honeymoon!

Much love,

I first met Jessica a few years ago when I photographed her sister Cara's wedding. I just adore her family, so I was delighted when I found out Jessica was engaged and planning her own wedding, and super excited when they asked me to photograph it.

I met up with Jessica and Jeff (and their dog Mike) at Frick Park for their engagement session, and we had a grand old time wandering around taking some photos.

Meet Mike:
